Sistersville Hocus Pocus Draws Large Crowds

Organizer Bonnie Hizer greets the trick or treaters.
Along with the welcome return of pumpkin spiced beverages and sweet treats, the fall season brings another well-loved tradition to Sistersville. Through the many efforts of Bonnie Hizer and family, the Riverfront Walking Trail at the Sistersville Park transforms into a Hocus Pocus Playground.
Werewolves, superheroes, vampires, ghosts and princesses were seen Thursday night lining up long before the anticipated opening at 6:00 PM anxious for their turn to trek down the famous walking path.
Trick-or-Treaters and their parents didn’t seem to mind the wait. The event charges a $1.00 donation with all funds benefiting the park and pool. Another cooperating factor was the weather which was crisp and dry and set the scene for a perfect backdrop along the river with the fall colors at their peak. “Over 400 children this year and more than 30 vendors,” shared Bonnie Friday morning when she stopped in the Star News office to give us an update.
Children from Sistersville, New Martinsville, Middlebourne, Paden City and St. Marys all enjoyed the festive fun and treats provided by local businesses, police, civic organizations and churches.
Bonnie, an employee of Union Bank of Sistersville which was one of the many businesses represented, expressed her sincere thanks to everyone involved in helping to make this year’s Hocus Pocus the most successful to date.
