Fireworks punctuate Picnic in the Park

By Staff | Jul 3, 2013

The fun and festivities of the Fourth of July holiday will continue Sunday with Sistersville’s annual Picnic In In The Park, sponsored by the Sistersville Community Service Organization.

The public is encouraged to come and bring their own lawn chair to the event, which will feature entertainment, activities, free ice cream and cake (sponsored by the Sistersville IGA), food and craft vendors, fireworks, and more.

The Sistersville Pool will open from noon to 8 p.m. and will lower admission to just $1. The popular “rock wall” for the kids will return along with several other activities for kids, including Roger Hartline and Toyland.

There is no set up fee for craft, food, or game booths.

A flag ceremony by the Sistersville Veterans of Foreign Wars will be held at 2 p.m. Entertainment will kick off at 2:30 p.m. under the park’s big shelter, with the main event, Smoke Daddy and The Crawfish, taking the park stage from 7-9:30 p.m.

Smoke Daddy and the Crawfish have been entertaining audiences around the Ohio Valley and beyond for almost two decades now. They are regular performers for the Wheeling “Pickin’ in the Park” and “Waterfront Wednesday” concert series. They play annually for Oglebayfest and appear frequently for Oglebay’s Sunday summer concerts at the Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater. They have played at fairs and festivals all over the valley and even traveled to Nashville to perform in 2005. They have also played for several corporate tailgate parties at Heinz Field before Pittsburgh Steeler games.

Talent and versatility are two of the key ingredients that have allowed Smoke Daddy to stay together for so long. The band plays a wide variety of music, from rock to country, from swing to blues, and is made up of some of the finest musicians in the valley with over 100 years of experience playing professionally between them.

Sunday’s event will come to an end at 9:30 p.m., with fireworks by Zambelli.
