Please help with monument

By Staff | Feb 10, 2010

Dear Editor:

We have approximately three more weeks to go before our shut off date of March 1 of accepting names that can be placed on the monument, honoring and giving tribute to our Civil War Soldiers who fought in the Civil War.

This monument is black, eight feet tall, with a Civil War Solider on the front and the names of the Civil War Soldiers will be inscribed on the sides of the monument. This is a very beautiful monument honoring our Civil War Soldiers.

This is the only time that you will be able to place your ancestors name on this monument. This monument and the soldier’s names will be there for as long as we are a country. We have to charge $100 per name to help pay for the monument. Or if you wish to send a donation, that would be greatly appreciated as well to help cover the cost of the monument that can be seen by your great-great grandchildren and all of your family and friends. If you would like to put one of your ancestors names on this wonderful monument, please send the information to Bob Tippins at 116 Work Street, Sistersville, WV 26175, or Mary Thomas at 309 Fair Street, Middlebourne, WV 26149.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to call Bob Tippins at 304-652-1557 or Mary Thomas at 304-758-4552. Remember March 1 is the cut off date.

Make checks payable to Civil War Memorial Fund.

We will be dedicating this monument on May 30, Memorial Day at 2 p.m. at the Court House in Middlebourne, where the monument will be placed. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this most wonderful service honoring our Civil War Soldiers from Tyler County.
