Students perform with honor band

Outstanding students from Tyler Consolidated Middle and High Schools performed with the West Virginia Northern Region Honor Band on Sat. Jan. 23 at Brooke High School.

Students were nominated by their own band director, then had to be approved by the honor band committee. After being accepted, the instrumentalists traveled to Brooke for two days of intense rehearsal with guest conductors.

The high school honor band was conducted by Mark Hardman, director of bands at George Washington High School, witch is known for it’s outstanding wind ensemble that has been selected as the prestigious West Virginia State Honor Band many times.

The middle school honor band was conducted by Nick Ellison, who is an elementary band director in St. Paul, MN.

The Honor Band was made up of the finest instrumental musicians from Tyler, Wetzel, Marshall, Ohio, Brooke and Hancock Counties.

After the many long hours of rehearsal, the students attended a banquet in their honor and were awarded with a medal to commemorate the special event.

The honor band weekend concluded with a concert for the public performed at Brooke High School auditorium on Sat. evening.
