Mistrial declared in Wedekamm case
After two days of jury selections, Judge Mark A. Karl declared a second mistrial in the case of Steven D. Wedekamm.
On Jan. 19, jury selection began with Prosecuting Attorney Luke Furbee and the defendant along with his attorney, George Cosenza, and forty-three citizens (possible jurors) of Tyler County present for the process.
Wedekamm, 41, of 313 Hickman Run Road, Sistersville, was charged with one felony offense of child abuse by hitting and kicking the child and such resulting in injury which is allegedly to have occurred in Oct. 2007.
This is the second time Wedekamm’s case has been declared a mistrial. According to the prosecution, it has been impossible to seat a jury due to the public nature of some of the state’s witnesses. Furbee commented, “All we can do is keep trying, whether it be in this county or somewhere else. I want to sincerely thank those who appeared for jury duty for their time, patience and honesty.”
His case has been continued until next term of court which begins on Feb. 10.
