FRN grant approved
The Tyler County Commissioners held their second meeting of the month on Jan. 27.
Melody Reed from the Family Resource Network was present at the meeting to request grant money. “We are trying to get a reimbursement grant to hire a coordinator for teen court”, Reed stated.
She was asking for $21,000. Reed said that $5,000 of that money would go toward the purchase of a laptop computer, and other office supplies needed to get the new hire started by July 1. She informed the gentlemen that in August, the commission would get all of the money back.
The commission members approved the request for the grant.
Sistersville resident and Veteran Bob Tippins attended the meeting with an update on the Civil War monument that will be placed in front of the courthouse. Tippins stated to the members that he wrote the Governor of West Virginia to come and be apart of the dedication.
He said that the cost of the monument is estimated to be between $6,000 and $7,500. Tippins added that he has received 30 names so far to be placed on the monument. The cost of having a family member’s name put on the monument is $100. The dedication will take place on May 30 at 2:30 p.m.
Dave Shreves from Wetzel Valley Agency attended the meeting on behalf of the insurance issue. He stated that they will have the same coverage as BRIM but for $41,749 but they will get more coverage. He also stated that the Police Department is the only one that will have a deductible in the amount of $2,500. He is to return on the regular scheduled meeting for Feb. 9.
In other matters, the commissioners decided to withdraw the request for the satellite phone system from SkyTerra Communications.
The commissioners adopted the resolution to have PSI from Parkersburg perform geotechinical services on the property that the new annex building will sit on. They will conduct eight core soil samples of fill, organics, stabilization of the soil and soil bearings.
The next regular meeting will be held on Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. at the Courthouse in Middlebourne.
