Wildcats looking to better record in 2010

The Paden City High School varsity boys basketball team is still looking to get their first win under their belts this season, but continue to give a good effort on the court.

With the weather forecast delaying and canceling school intermittently and a possible future forecast of the same, Paden City has several games still up in the air. Below are results of recent games:

The Wildcats and Bishop Donahue played to a 23-25 half time score on Dec. 16, though PC outscored their opponents 13-11 in the second period. But Donahue turned on the heat in the second half, adding 20 and 24 points respectively to take the win.

Malakai Anderson led all Wildcat scorers with 28 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. Zach Yost scored eight; Josh Bennett had seven; Geoffrey Bidwell, two; and Taylor Still scored a point and was credited with six rebounds.

In the battle of Wetzel County, the Valley Lumberjacks outscored the Wildcats on Dec. 18 from the get-go to turn the contest into a battle. In the first period, the Jacks jumped out a 14-6 lead and a 25-18 halftime score to take the win.

Yost was the top point getter for the ‘Cats with 15 points and nine rebounds. Anderson scored 11 points and hauled in nine boards; Bennett scored four points; Peyton Hinkley had two points and eight rebounds; and Matt Barker scored two.

In the Wildcats third outing of the year on Dec. 22 at Bridgeport as they came up against a formidable Bridgeport team who held the Green and White to only four points in the first period of play in their 56-29 overall winning effort.

Anderson led the Wildcats in the scoring department in the game with 11 on the scoreboard and six rebounds.

Yost totaled eight points and six boards; Bennett added seven points and pulled down five rebounds. Hinkley was the leading rebounder for the Green with 10 and two blocks.

Paden City opened up 2010 on Jan. 2 with Waterford, Ohio, but caught the first loss of the year with the 56-42 defeat.

Waterford held the Green to five points in the first quarter and to 12 points in the first half while putting up 28 of their own to take the eventual win.

Anderson led Paden City with 14 points, five rebounds and seven blocks (career high).

Yost added 10 points and had three rebounds; Still scored nine and had six boards; Bennet totaled seven; and Peyton Hinkley added two points and brought down seven rebounds.

The Wildcats were scheduled to host Cameron on Tuesday and will host the Hornets of Hundred on Friday.

On Saturday the team will play at Bellaire St. Johns. On Jan 12 the ‘Cats will host the Bishops of Bishop Donahue.
