Two men injured in collision with deer
Deputy J.K. Maston and Sheriff Bob Kendle investigated an accident on W.Va. 18 one mile south of Middlebourne on Oct. 17.
According to reports, a 1987 Toyota Pickup Truck driven by Coy Moffitt, 53, of Sistersville was traveling south on W.V.a 18 when a deer ran into the road. Moffitt struck the deer, skidded off the roadway, struck a tree, jumped a ditch, rolled over and skidded onto its right side, coming to rest facing north.
Both Moffitt and his passenger, Jonathan Moffitt, 22, were injured in the accident. The elder Moffitt was transported to Sistersville General Hospital by the Middlebourne EMS and later released. Jonathan was transported to Wetzel County Hospital and later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown due to the severity of his injuries.
The vehicle was declared a total loss.
In addition to Middlebourne EMS, the Middlebourne Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
