Haught to celebrate 101 years

Helen Springer Haught of Sistersville will celebrate her 101st birthday on Tuesday, Sept. 27 with a card shower and visits from friends and family.

Haught was born Sept. 27, 1910 in Sistersville, the sixth of 10 children born to Alonzo George and Joberta Henderson Springer. The Springer family had prominent businesses in Sistersville for over 75 years, including Springer’s Restaurant.

She is a 1929 graduate of Sistersville High School and was married to Glen Ellsworth Haught, who passes away in 1971.

In the 9160s, Haught managed the Sistersville swimming pool and taught many of the children in the community how to swim and lifeguard.

She is the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church in Sistersville.

Haught has two children, Joberta H. White of Sistersville and Jack E. Haught of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. She also has four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, who call her Nana.
