Local record holder has ‘75th’ birthday

Paul Thomas
Paul Thomas of Sistersville will be celebrating his 75th birthday June 28, 1-3:30 p.m., with an open house at Rendezvous Roller Rink, 1.8 miles southeast of Sistersville on state Route 18.
He is well known throughout the area as the man who set a new Guiness World Record for continuous roller skating in 1975 by skating for 154 hours on Jan. 18-24. The proceeds from that event were donated to Sistersville General Hospital’s Building Fund.
Paul and his wife Alicia built the Rendezvous Roller Rink and opened it Dec. 8, 1973.
They operated the rink for the next 30 years, until its sale in 2003. It was built to fulfill a need for more recreational opportunities for the young people of the area. As a result, many people have enjoyed good times and made memories at the roller rink.
All of those who would like to come and see friends and family are invited to come to the rink June 28 to have fun, skate, talk, and reminisce.
No gifts please.
