COMMITTED TO THE COMMUNITY — Hilda Wright (left) presents the DAR Community Service Award to Middlebourne Mayor Gayla Fisher.

The monthly meeting of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held April 4 at the Pursley Church of Christ’s annex room in Pursley.

Frannie Weekley, Chapter Regent, conducted the business meeting starting at 11 a.m.

A motion made by Tina Jenkins stated that an alternate list for hostesses be made in order to reduce the number serving on the committee. This would relieve the members who have been serving a long time. Mindy Davis instructed the group in correct flag etiquette to use when attending conference. An update on the health of Christine Hart was given by her granddaughter Tina. She reported that Christine may be coming home in about 30 days.

Mary Lamp reported the chapter now has 44 members including the inductees. Volunteers who plan to present in May individual flags to the kindergarten classes in Tyler and Pleasants counties are: Hilda Wright and Betty Tustin – Tyler County; and Eve Light and Helen Helinger – Pleasants County.

Pizza, salad, chips and drinks were provided by the hostesses for the day. Serving on this committee were: Frannie Weekley, Kathie Reed, Hilda Wright, and Nancy Bevelin. Sara Peeler, also on the committee, was unable to attend.

Following Hilda’s presentation four new members were inducted into the Ohio Valley Chapter by Mary Lamp, Registrar, and Ginger Nalley, WV State Regent.

The new members are: Paula Garner, Diane Beall, Louise Wherry, and Kathy Patrello. Each new member received a DAR Flag. Also inducted into the chapter were Jeanne and Haley Stone who reside in Florida. The Stone’s were unable to attend.

Also in attendance were: Gayla Fisher’s mother, Margaret Spangler, and Gayla’s sister, Brenda Paul; Paula Garner and Diane Beall had their mother and their sister in attendance. The chapter members also welcomed Charla Nutter, WV Vice Regent and her mother.
