County Leaders Approves Supervisor
The Tyler County Commission met on Tuesday, July 28 in the auditorium of the senior center in Middlebourne. The minutes from the July 14, 2026, meeting were approved along with the fiduciary report and exonerations.
Commission President Lance Hickman began the meeting asking for approval for Tracey Taylor to begin paramedic classes. Commissioners approved signing the contract which enables the commission to pay for the classes and pledges Tracey will remain in Tyler County for a designated period of time.
Next, Mr. Hickman asked for approval of a funding request for the Senior Center in Middlebourne in the amount of $13,907 for fiscal year 26/27. The amount was omitted in the original approval of funds of the center. Commissioners approved the request.
The commissioners approved the network services renewal agreement with Global Science Technology with the signed addendum from GST.
Tyler County EMS Director Logan Sailor requested approval from the Tyler County Commission to change Charles Boston’s position from paramedic to full-time supervisor.
Commissioner Mike Smith requested an executive session to discuss the personnel matter. The commission entered executive session at 9:09 a.m. and reconvened at 9:31 a.m., subsequently approving the position change. Boston will serve as the full-time supervisor during evenings and weekends.
Sailor also requested permission to begin the hiring process for an administrative assistant to help manage the increased workload associated with the county’s new Station 60, located at the Tyler County Fairgrounds. He explained that EMS call volume has doubled, resulting in approximately $30,000 in monthly insurance billings. An administrative assistant would handle day-to-day paperwork and billing responsibilities, helping to improve efficiency and maximize reimbursement. Following discussion, the commissioners approved Sailor’s request to begin searching for a qualified administrative assistant.
Alex Blanko with WYK Associates approached the Commission to approve the new County Clerk records storage system proposal. The new storage containers will require an additional wall to be placed in the basement of the courthouse to separate the record keeping storage from the voting machines. Commissioners tabled the request until they could visit the site in the courthouse to visualize the proposed change.
Commissioner Eric Vincent clarified that the rollover funds approved by the Tyler County Commission were not new money being added to the county’s budget. Instead, the action authorized the transfer of existing budgeted funds totaling $13,352,210 into their appropriate accounts for the new fiscal year. Following Vincent’s explanation, the commissioners unanimously approved the rollover of the funds.
Following the approval to pay the bills after the courthouse construction meeting, the meeting was adjourned 9:53 a.m.
