Water was over the road in a few Wetzel County areas, but for the most part the county was spared from what other areas received.

Severe storms left a trail of damage across several communities, including Newport, Belmont, St. Marys, and Sistersville.

In Sistersville, torrential rainfall and high winds caused significant flooding as runoff overwhelmed local waterways.

The heavy rain sent a nearly 10-yard-wide stream of water rushing through Sistersville Park, forcing Tanyard Run to overflow its banks.

The flooding inundated several areas of the park, covering the baseball field, basketball court, and park shelter with water.

Debris and standing water were left behind as the storms moved out of the area leaving major cleanup for maintenance crews.

Other communities throughout the region also reported storm-related damage, with high winds and heavy rainfall impacting homes, roads, and public infrastructure. The communities of Weston and Buckhannon, both small towns in WV, suffered the most damage and were assisted by the National Guard. Local officials in these communities pledge to continue to assess the damage and monitor affected areas.
