Opening ceremonies kicked off at the town gazebo with state and local dignitaries addressing the crowd with prayer, followed by speeches on the history of America and Tyler County.
A patriotic parade began at 1 pm along route 18 through the middle of town with the Tyler Consolidated high school band blasting out patriotic songs, while Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington rode on a float with the Statue of Liberty and several other leaders.
Fire trucks and emergency vehicles from all over the county thrilled the young folks as they tossed out candy and other goodies.
After the parade, the fun continued as they moved to the Stealey Green Center for a free community picnic Presented by Momentive.
The Shortline Junction band provided live bluegrass music, and on the front grounds was a live Civil War history encampment. A Kids Zone with games and inflatables was presented by Long Reach Federal Credit Union and featured train rides and a foam party.
One of the top events of the day was the community declaration signing.
The event had a red, white, and blue pie contest and America’s 250th Birthday cake.
One of the bright spots of the entire event was the large number of American flags on display throughout the town.
Celebrating 250 years in Middlebourne was something visitors will always remember.
While a later afternoon shower hit, it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who enjoyed a day of fun and celebration.
The organizers of the event are commended for a job well done.
There truly was something for everyone.
Thank you, Middlebourne!
