The Sistersville Pool is making a big splash this summer as families across Tyler County continue to enjoy one of the area’s most treasured recreational facilities.

After completing important repairs before the start of the season, the 70-year-old pool is operating in what many consider its best condition in more than a decade. The improvements are the result of continued care, planning, and investment by the City of Sistersville, Mayor Rice, City Council, and the Sistersville Park and Pool Board.

Over the past several years, regular maintenance has been a priority to extend the life of the historic facility. This work has included applying commercial-grade paint, sealing leaks and cracks each season for the past five years, removing loose areas from the pool floor, and applying epoxy resin patches to problem areas to help prevent water loss.

Those efforts have helped preserve the pool and protect the community investment, ensuring the facility can continue serving generations of families throughout Tyler County.

“The pool is currently in the best shape it has been in over the last 10 years,” said Park and Pool Board President Mary Ann Rutherford, who credits consistent maintenance, the faithful support of the Harry E. and Olive Barth Charitable Trust, the Stealey Community Fund, VFW Post #6327, many local service organizations and churches, and the commitment of local leaders for the improvements. These investments are helping guarantee an extended lifetime for a facility that has provided countless memories for area residents.

Attendance has also been strong this summer, with pool management reporting that the successful Kids First Sponsor a Child Pool Pass Program has played a major role in bringing more children and families to the pool. On many days, nearly half of the daily attendance can be attributed to donated pool passes provided through the programs.

The community support has allowed more local children to enjoy supervised swimming, recreation, and time with friends during the summer months.

The summer schedule is also filled with special events, including the annual Paul Neuenschwander Family Glow Night rescheduled because of weather for this Friday July 3rd beginning at 8:00 PM, multiple Kid’s Days planned throughout the season, and the popular Picnic in the Park event.

Sistersville Park and Pool Board member Glenna Heinlein encourages everyone to take advantage of the many facilities available at the historic park.

“The pool board is working hard to bring upgrades and improvements to the park,” Heinlein said. “We encourage everyone to come out, enjoy the pool, and use the park facilities. This is a community asset, and we are proud of the progress being made.”

With continued community support and responsible stewardship, the Sistersville Pool is positioned to remain a favorite summer destination for years to come.
