Three students from A.I. Boreman Elementary School earned local and state recognition through the Elks Americanism Essay Contest, which challenged students to answer the question, “What Does Service to Your Country Mean to You?”

The essays were judged by members of Sistersville Elks Lodge No. 333, with more than 30 entries submitted by students from both A.I. Boreman Elementary School and Sistersville Elementary School.

Every student who participated received a certificate and a $25 local award in recognition of their efforts.

Kortney Klecz and Ella Strode were named runners-up, each receiving an engraved plaque and a $200 award.

Lincoln Thomas earned first place honors, receiving an engraved plaque and a $300 prize.

All three winning essays advanced to state competition, while Thomas’ first-place essay was selected to move on to national judging.
