Commissioners Hear Update on E-911 Building

By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Feb 16, 2022

The Tyler County Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 9 a.m. in the Chambers of the Courthouse in Middlebourne. All commissioners were present. Following The Pledge of Allegiance, led by Commissioner Mike Smith, and a prayer by Commission President Eric Vincent, the minutes of the January 25, 2022 meeting were approved. Also approved was the Fiduciary report from County Clerk Neil A. Archer II and Exonerations from Assessor Lisa Jackson.

First up on the agenda was Roseanne Eastham from the Middlebourne Public Library requesting from the Commission that they would be able to continue funding the library in 2022. Roseanne reported that activity at the library has been increasing with craft nights starting up, and the library tutoring programs which are up and running.

She also reported that computer use by the public has seen an increase over the recent weeks. Commissioners agreed to discuss the funding for this year at their next budget meeting.

Change orders were presented by Commission President Eric Vincent regarding the construction of the Judicial Building.

The first change order applied to McKinley Architecture for the relocation of utilities. The second change order, also for McKinley Architecture, involved an increase in steel pricing that was presented from Somerville Industries. Both change orders were approved.

Under Public Comment, Josh Fulks, E-911 Director, updated the commissioners concerning a delay in equipment delivery that would be pushing the move in date out to May.

he hold-up is the arrival of the necessary equipment, like the Sola-Comm phone system, radios and the tower being installed. “We are hoping to be in the new center by May 1, 2022. This will depend on equipment being delivered and installed,” informed Mr. Fulks.

The new tower is a 50ft self-supporting tower that will be installed by Telconn out of Parkersburg, WV.

This tower is for radio communications only. The tower will have a direct line of sight to the Klondike tower and should help improve the radio communications for all Emergency Services in Tyler County.

Following the approval to pay the bills the meeting was adjourned. The next scheduled meeting of the County Commissioners is February 22, 2022 at 9 a.m. at the Courthouse in Middlebourne.
