Shakespeare Comes To Town With Much Ado!

By Staff | Oct 5, 2021

ArtsLink will present The Rustic Mechanicals’ Skirmish of Wit Tour of William Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 7:00pm. The performance will take place at the Lincoln Theater in downtown New Martinsville.

Shakespeare’s comic romance plays out amidst the brittle high spirits of a post-war house party, as youthful passions run riot, lovers are deceived, and happiness is threatened before peace ultimately wins out. In Messina, a group of soldiers returns from the trenches. The world weary Benedick and his friend Claudio find themselves reacquainted with Beatrice and Hero. As memories of conflict give way to a life of parties and masked balls, Claudio and Hero fall madly, deeply in love, while Benedick and Beatrice reignite their own rather more combative courtship.

In anticipation of the play’s performance, there will be a FREE event at the Parlor Theater, also in New Martinsville, on October 6 at 7:00pm, of Speak The Speech, an Open-Mic Shakespeareoke. Think karaoke, but with Shakespeare. There is a catalogue and a selection of printed scenes and monologues available for audience and Mechanicals alike to present. No advance preparation is necessary!!

For ArtsLink members, tickets to the public performance are $10 for individuals and $20 for families; for non-members, $15 for individuals and $25 for families. Student admission is $5. For more ticket information, please call the office at 304-455-2278 or visit our website at www.artslinkwv.org.
