By Staff | Sep 8, 2021

WV HEROES DAY 2021 will offer a First Responder Parade, 9/11 ceremony, and a family friendly concert. This years event will be held 20 years after the attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.

Our event in Ritchie County will be held at the Ritchie County 4h Grounds (route 16, outside of Harrisville, WV). We are inviting neighboring First Responders from Doddridge, Pleasants, Tyler, and Wood Counties to come and be recognized for their service to their communities and our great state.

Heroes Day events will include:

2:00 pm WV HEROES DAY First Responder Parade (Main Street, Harrisville, WV)

5:00 pm WV HEROES DAY 9/11 Remembrance/HEROES DAY Observance

6:30 pm Elvis Tribute by Jim Forshey

7:30 pm The Avalons: Rock & Roll Oldies Sensation

I am talking to different food and drink vendors for the event.

WV HEROES DAY has grown since beginning in Sistersville, WV, 10 years after the 9/11/01 attacks. Not only do we remember the First Responders that answered the call in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, but we also give thanks and recognize those who serve the great state of West Virginia today.

In 2021 WV HEROES DAY events are planned (that I know of) in Ritchie, Harrison, Hampshire, Ohio, Marion, Monongalia County, and during the WVU Football game on Saturday September 11th.

10 years after the 9/11 attacks on the United States, the city of Sistersville, WV proclaimed September 11th as HEROES DAY.

The event continued in the city of Sistersville and was supported by the county leadership of Tyler County.

In 2015, the WV Legislature adopted the 2nd Saturday of September as HEROES DAY in the state of WV (HR16).

In 2017, Governor Jim Justice declared EVERY 2ND SATURDAY of SEPTEMBER as HEROES DAY in the great state of West Virginia. Since the action of the WV legislature and the governor, many ceremonies and observances have been held all over the state of West Virginia on that Saturday or sometime during that weekend. In 2018, during the WVU vs. Baylor football game, WVU held a HEROES DAY observance during the 3rd quarter of the nationally televised game.

The official press release from the governor’s office will be released in September as this year’s date approaches. Until the press release is distributed, feel free to share this year’s HEROES DAY proclamation with municipalities and First Responder agencies throughout the state of West Virginia.
