Free Swim & Hot Dogs
The Sistersville Elks Club 333 once again treated the community to free hot dogs, chips and water during one of 18 free swim days sponsored by the club. Everyone knows swimming makes you hungry, and the mid-afternoon hot dogs were a big hit with both adults and kids. Free swim days provided by the Elks will extend through July 24 with several additional days provided by other community organizations.
The 18 free days were made possible through a grant obtained by the Sistersville Elks Lodge from the Elks National Foundation and their Community Investments Program. This program allows local lodges to apply for grants to assist them in providing activities for youth, veterans, charitable endeavors and community activities within their jurisdiction.
The grant was approved to help provide people of our area a safe and secure place for families to enjoy swimming and recreation free of charge during this time of extended need as we emerge from the recent pandemic.
The Sistersville Park and Pool Board extends thanks and praise to the local Elks lodge. “For some of our guests, the hot dog lunch is their big meal for the day,” explained pool board member Mary Ann Rutherford. “Some of our kids, who were enjoying a free day of swimming, kept coming in the concession stand to ask when the Elks were arriving. It really is a highlight for them,” explained Mary Ann.
