Sistersville Elks Sponsor Free Swim Days
Pictured is Don Stokes, Secretary of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 333, awarding Lea Ann Butcher, Assistant Manager of the Sistersville Pool, a check covering 18 FREE DAYS of swimming for the community and surrounding areas beginning July 4, and running through July 23. Two of the days, the Elks will supply a free hotdog lunch for those in attendance. The dates for free lunch are yet to be determined. Complete story in next week’s Tyler Star News. (*Picnic in the Park which also has a free swimming day is Sunday, July 11, and is sponsored by the Sistersville Community Service Organization.)
This activity was made possible through a grant obtained by the Sistersville Elks Lodge from the Elks National Foundation and their Community Investments Program. This program allows local lodges to apply for grants to assist them in providing activities for youth, veterans, charitable endeavors and community activities within their jurisdiction.
The grant was approved to help provide the means for people of our area to have a safe and secure place for their families to be able to have outings for swimming and recreation free of charge during this time of extended need as we emerge from the recent pandemic.
Since April 1, 2021 Sistersville Elks Lodge has already obtained $7,500 in grants and over $6,000 in scholarships for local graduates.
Last year, the local Lodge distributed in excess of $50,000 in grants, scholarships and donations to add those in need.
The Sistersville Park and Pool Board wishes to extend their gratitude to our local Elks Lodge.
The Sistersville Elks have continually supported the park and pool throughout their existence, even donating the land on which the current park and pool are built.
