The Tyler County Board of Education met on Monday, June 21 in the newly built bus garage.

The first item on the agenda that was discussed and approved was expediting the hiring and acceptance of resignations throughout the end of July. Approval for Superintendent Highley to move forward with an Archery Club at TCMS/HS.

Tricia Feldmeier, Director of Human Resources, filled in for Mr. Highley; she relayed a couple of messages he had left for the meeting. She mentioned that Mr. Highley has been looking into Archery for TCHS, however since he was absent from the meeting, he asked the board for permission to proceed. The board approved his request and moved on to the rest of his report. Feldmeier told the board that new canopies for the track & field team have been ordered for the next season, a new contract needs signed to include a fourth PRO, and the FFA livestock trailer should be purchased soon.

Next on the agenda were budget revisions, which were read by Treasurer Jeff Davis and approved by the board.

All requests were approved, including a trip request by Annie Erwin and Leon Ammons to bring Agriculture/FFA students to participate in several different events: The Milk Quality and Products Team will travel to the WVU campus to compete in the hands-on portion of the contest on June 22, 2021; the WV State FFA Convention at Cedar Lakes on July 7-10, 2021; WV State FFA Food Science CDE at Cedar Lakes on July 15, 2021; WV State FFA Livestock CDE at WVU Animal Science Farm on July 24, 2021; WV State Fair at Fairlea, WV on August 11-16, 2021.

All resignations and employments/transfers/recessions were approved. After teaching for 33 years, Gwen Davies, Physical Education Teacher at AIB, is resigning by retirement. “She will be missed,” President Linda Hoover said.

A couple requests for the next agenda include updates for the pump station, seating capacity and handicap areas for the new bleachers, and updates for the Post 48 American Legion Auxiliary project. The next meeting will be held on Monday, July 5.
