MHS Class of 1971 To Hold 50 Reunion
On June 4, 1971, 154 young women and men left the halls of Magnolia High School in New Martinsville to embark upon their life’s journey. Some went into military service; some into careers in the trades; others as teachers and nurses; others in business and the professions; and all sought to serve in some way during their lives after high school.
This class has met every ten years since graduation and will come together once again to celebrate their 50 Class Reunion this summer.
The Reunion will be held at the Spielers Club in Proctor, West Virginia where this class had their graduation party in 1971. Interestingly, one of the organizers of that party in 1971, Mike Snyder, is now an officer for the Spielers and he is one of the reasons that class will be celebrating at this attractive and convenient venue that sits right on the banks of the Ohio River.
The 50 Reunion Committee has a busy schedule planned for their classmates. The events include:
Friday, July 30, starting at 6:00 PM, an opening Get Together at The Spielers.
At this event, there will be a moment of reflection, where the class will release one white dove-shaped balloon in the name of each deceased classmate. Admission is $5.00 per person payable at the door. There will be a light hors d’oeuvres buffet and cash beverage bar.
Saturday, July 31, starting at 1:00 PM and going through the afternoon, a potluck lunch at the home of classmates Linda and Doug Parish.
Saturday, July 31, starting at 7:00 PM, the Reunion Party at The Spielers. At this event, there will be a short ceremony to honor those from the class who served in the military. Admission is $10.00 per person payable at the door. There will be a heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet and cash beverage bar.
Sunday, August 1, there will be a close-of-the-weekend three hour cruise on the Sistersville Ferry that departs from the Ferry Landing at 6:00 PM. The fee is $5.00 with pizza being provided. Guests need to bring their own beverage and chairs. There is a restroom on the ferry. The event is hosted by classmate Pat Zohn and his wife Becky Dugan from the Class of ’70.
The Reunion Committee is doing all that it can to reach classmates, especially those who live within fifty miles of New Martinsville, and is hoping for a big turnout for this major milestone event. Reunion members Ceci Herrick Edgell, Lee Horn, Linda Parish, Larry Crane and Bob King are actively pursuing leads of classmates. Two mailings have gone out and a robust Facebook Page, Magnolia ’71, has been generating interest and excitement about the Reunion.
