Paden City Council Hears Noise Concerns

Paden City Common Council met in regular session on Monday, June 7 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of the municipal building.

Following the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting began with the approval of the minutes from the May 3, 2021 council meeting and May 6, 2021 special meeting.

Bari Jean Fox addressed council thanking them for all their work and support during the filming of Marble King and Wissmach Glass by the Discovery Channel. She reported that it will air late this summer or early fall.

Several citizens spoke concerning the excessive noise level coming from the stripper plant.

Josh Billiter, Paden City Water Superintendent, said he would be installing an intake valve to help with noice reduction.

He also noted that the EPA has confirmed the air quality coming out of the stripper meets all standards. Josh also explained that Litman Excavating was due to connect water to the south tanks and there was the possibility a boil water order would be issued. F

inally Josh asked permission to interview for a maintenance worker due to the fact that he is short two people.

Madison Yaron, daughter of Lizbeth and Thomas Yaron, is a Life Scout from Scouts BSA Troop 79 chartered by Simpson United Methodist Church Moundsville, West Virginia. Madison shared with council that she is working towards her Eagle Scout rank which is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. Next up was a request by the sewer board asking for a pay raise. Council decided that they needed to check their budget and report back what they can afford at the next council meeting.

Under the topic of unfinished business the city is still waiting on an answer from AT&T on the progress of the tower that is planned for construction at the city park. Also under the same topic, council revisited the subject of painting or siding for city hall and is in the process of receiving quotes. Quotes are also being received for installing air conditioning in the upstairs of the city building.

Under new business permission was approved by the council to pay employees for unused vacation time up to one week. Also approved was permission to allow David Jacobs to roll one week vacation into the new year due to lack of time to get the vacation scheduled.

Both the 2021/2022 water budget and the 2021/2022 park budget were approved by council, before heading into executive session to discuss park and pool issues. Following the executive session council reported that no action was taken. Finally the hire of a new maintenance worker for the park was approved.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Paden City Common Council will be held Tuesday, July 5th at 7 p.m.
