Tyler County Commission Hears Light Agenda

The Tyler County Commission held its regular meeting at the Courthouse on May 25, 2021 at 9 AM. Present were Commissioner Mike Smith, Commissioner Eric Vincent and Commissioner Lance Hickman. The Commissioners unanimously approved the minutes of the May 11, 2021 commission meeting. They also approved the Exonerations presented by Chief Deputy Clerk Amy Joe Glover in the absence of Assessor Lisa Jackson. Assessor Jackson was attending the assessor’s annual in-service training. The Commissioners also approved the Fiduciary report presented by County Clerk Neil A. Archer II.

Karen Cain and Ashley Guiler from the Wetzel/Tyler Health Department addressed the commissioners concerning funding for the health department. They stated the department is in need of a registered nurse.

Expenses including benefits would be around $69,000 and that all funding is currently split between Wetzel and Tyler Counties. Normal operations of the department were put on hold due to COVID and income was lost. It was decided that the Commission has aready allowed $40,000 in the 21/22 Fiscal Year Budget to the Wetzel/Tyler Health Department.

Sheriff Weigle attended the Tyler County Board of Education meeting to discuss an additional resource officer at Tyler Consolidated Middle School.

The Board of Education agreed to pay 50% of the salary of that additional officer. Sheriff Weigle asked that the hire of an additional officer be added to the June 8 agenda.

Mike Hess, ABM BES Account Executive attended the meeting to discuss energy savings with the Commission. ABM is currently working in the counties of the states of Pennsylvania and New York and is expanding to cities and counties in West Virginia. The commission will investigate further into this opportunity.

On a motion from Mr. Hickman, seconded by Mr. Vincent the commission approved to pay the bills. Finally the commission approved a motion to adjourn.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Tyler County Commission will be held on June 8 at 9 AM at the Tyler County Courthouse.
