Nichols Graduates Top Of The Class
Sadie Diane Nichols, daughter of Dr. Gary and Dr. Amanda Myers-Nichols, has been named Valedictorian for the Tyler Consolidated High School Class of 2021. She is President of the National Honor Society as well as serving her senior class as their historian. She was an active member of Book Club, Sources of Strength Club, Quilting and Sewing Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions Club and Prom Club. While at TCHS she played softball and varsity volleyball earning a 4 year letter. Sadie was a member of the award winning Knights Pride Band. She attends Sistersville First United Methodist Church and was active in her church choir, praise group and served as music director of their VBS.
Sadie has won several awards. They include: The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Award, the Governors Honor Academy Award along with the Elks Legion Essay Award. She also was presented the Heisman Athletic Award and Community Service Award.
Sadie shared her feelings about the area she has called home all her life. “I am more than grateful for the opportunity to live in a community that is as supportive and loving as this. They have guided me, shaped me, and gotten me to this significant point in my life,” explained Sadie. She said her journey was never about being valedictorian, but more about being pushed beyond her potential, being encouraged to build relationships, giving more than 100%, and leaving the world better than when she found it. Sadie closed with, “I could not be more honored or appreciative to be in this position here today.”
Sadie will be attending West Virginia Wesleyan this fall, majoring in Biology and Psychology. She desires to be a medical geneticist. Sadie has been awarded several scholarships. They include: The Rachel Carson Scholarship, WV Elks Association State Scholarship, Balfour Valedictorian Scholarship, Class of 1966 Scholarship, Courtney Evans Memorial Scholarship, Roy C. Heinlein Scholarship and the Promise Scholarship. Sadie, as a member of the Sistersville First United Methodist Church, applied for and was awarded the Wesleyan Methodist Scholarship.
Sadie is the granddaughter of Randy and Diane Myers and Gary and Terry Nichols.
Hallie Placer named Salutatorian
Hallie Danielle Placer, daughter of Corey and Alisha Placer, has been named Salutatorian for the Tyler Consolidated High School Class of 2021. Hallie’s honors include being in the top 15% of her class, Academic Letter and being named Elks Student of the Month in her freshmen and senior years. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, TSA and Prom Club. While in high school she played soccer, basketball and softball for the Silver Knights and performed numerous hours of community service.
Hallie provided a glimpse into her final year of high school during a historic pandemic. “It was certainly an honor to be named salutatorian of my graduating class,” said Hallie. She reflected on the year and how it had been filled with uncertain circumstances, limitations, and boundaries. No matter she kept her eye on the prize. Hallie explained, “I worked very hard to stay focused and keep pushing forward during this ever changing year.” Hallie also managed to graduate with 24 hours of college credit.
Hallie is planning on attending WVU in the fall and majoring in chemistry with a focus on pharmacy. Hallie has been awarded the Adam Kelly Memorial Scholarship, TyCon Knights Scholarship, Boggs Strong Scholarship, Veterans Scholarship and the Balfour Salutatorian Scholarship. She also earned both the Go First WVU Academic Scholarship and the ESCI Higher Education Scholarship.
Hallie is the granddaughter of Joe and Peggy Koerber and Steve Placer and Nora Pitrolo.
