Veterans Ride for Scholarships
On Sunday May 16, more than 50 veterans rode their motorcycles from Parkersburg up Rt 2, to New Martinsville, picking up others along the way. They stopped at the Certified gas station in New Martinsville, where they were joined by other riders for a fund raising ride for children of veterans killed and injured during war.
The money raised is to provide scholarships for these children who wish to go to college.
The ride was a four day event covering several states with nearly 100 riders. As of Sunday they had raised $12,000 dollars and covered over 1,100 miles. Sundays ride took them from Parkersburg up Rt 2, through Sistersville and Paden City to New Martinsvile.
The were escorted out Rt. 7 to Rt. 20, by Wetzel County Sheriff deputies. From there they traveled along Rt. 20 to Shinnston where theyhad lunch prepared by the American Legion Auxillary. They then traveled back Rt. 20, and up Rt 2, crossed over to Ohio and went up Rt. 7 and over to Wheeling.
While stopped at the Certified station in New Martinsville, the Pine Grove American Legion presented the riders with a donation check in the amount of $300.
According to the lead rider they have been fed by different American Legion Auxillaries each day and have recieved great response from the communities they traveled through, all for a great cause, in their annual Memorial run each year close to Memorial day.
