Steve Kastigar Appointed New Mayor of Paden City

Paden City held an emergency Meeting of Council on Friday, April 23, 2021 in the council chambers of the municipal building.

The meeting was to discuss new business regarding the vacant Mayor position. Council accepted the resignation of third ward councilman Steve Kastigar and appointed him as the new Mayor for the term to run until the general election in 2022. Kastigar was sworn in to the position effective immediately.

In other new business permission was granted for the Mayor to sign paperwork needed to continue with the large water project.

PC Council holds special meeting

The Paden City Council meeting on Wednesday evening April 21, 2021 at the City Building started with Councilman Steve Kastigar delivering the invocation and then held a moment of silence for the late Mayor Rick Casteel who passed away suddenly on April 18, 2021.

City Recorder Sheila Irvin after the Pledge of Allegiance called the meeting to order to address the agenda and move forward on replacing the former Mayor.

All council members were present and voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the April 5, 2021 meeting.

The lay of the levy was given unanimous approval by council, as was the payment of the bills.

There was no discussion on Water, Streets, Sewer, and maintenance.

In new business the repair or replacement of the HVAC upstairs at the City Building was discussed. Bee Electric gave a bid of $2,894.00 for a new compressor or $5,644.00 for a new unit. Council voted to reach out to a couple more businesses for bids before acting. They voted unanimously to table until next meeting on the repair or replacement of the unit.

City Recorder Irvin said she will try to get a Special Meeting set up for the selection of a new Mayor to finish out Mayor Casteel’s term. They all were very saddened for the loss of the Mayor and said he was good for the city and had accomplished a lot in his short time.

They expressed their sympathies for the Casteel family, and said they were in their thoughts and prayers.
