We the People Students Recognized at BOE Meeting

Student’s awarded a certificate from the Board for their success at We The People.

The regular Tyler County Board of Education meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at Boreman Elementary School. All Board Members were present for the meeting. Before the meeting was called to order, the Board Members toured Boreman Elementary to see the recent updates that have taken place at the school. Following this, a calendar hearing was held.

The first item of business was to approve the minutes of the previous meeting.

Maggie Fisher reported that last week was the Social Studies Fair. The number of students participating was reported to have increased from the last year. Two students – Katie Miller and Haley Cremona – presented their Social Studies project to the Board members.

Mr. Schupbach’s AP U.S. Government class was then presented with certificates for their Regional competition awards.

The students placed first in the regional district in November, and placed third in the stat tournament in January.

Mr. Schupbach spoke to the Board about the project and the success of his students, saying, “If we give our students challenges, they will accept them.”

Mr. Highley reported to the Board that the Athletic Facilities and Bus Garage projects are moving forward. He stated the Stadium is due to be complete the last week in August, and the projected completion date for the Bus Garage is in January of 2021.

Following this, the TCHS Softball schedule for 2020 was approved.

In other business, the following trip requests were approved: Brian Bailey to take the SES Choir to Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV on February 29, 2020 to sing the national anthem at a Wheeling Nailers Hockey game; Brian Bailey to take the SES Choir to TCHS on March 11, 2020 for a dress rehearsal for the All-County Choir concert; Matt Jennings to take the TCMS/HS Band students to attend the West Liberty Solo and Ensemble on February 1, 2020; Darlene Koerber to take six students to Youth in Government in Charleston on April 23-25, 2020; Ashley Cochran to take TCMS/HS TSA students to attend the State TSA Conference at Cedar Lakes in Ripley WV on March 25-28, 2020; and Ashley Moore to take TCMS TSA students to the Spring Conference at Cedar Lakes in Riley, WV on March 25-28, 2020.

The Board also approved the resignation of Mandy Fetty as Assistant Volleyball Coach at TCMS, effective immediately.

The Board then approved the employment of Kayla Morris as Head Girls Softball Coach at TCMS, effective immediately.

Following this, the meeting was adjourned.
