A man hunting in Tyler County was transported to the hospital Monday morning after his gun exploded, causing a small cut to his cheek and hand and temporary hearing loss in one ear.

According to Bradley C. Harris, of the Office of Marketing and Communications for the West Virginia Department of Commerce — on behalf of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, the man shot at a buck from his tree stand when his gun exploded. The man’s firearm was heavily damaged. Although the man was transported for medical treatment, he was not admitted to the hospital.

Harris said the incident occurred near Sistersville, W.Va.
