Ferrell Named Winner of TCHS Miss Knight Pageant Scholarship
Tyler Consolidated’s Shianne Ferrell has been crowned the 2018 Miss Knight, and for the first time ever, Tyler Consolidated High School has offered a scholarship to the contest winner and first runner-up.
This year featured six ladies vying to take home the crown and the scholarship – Naomi Mathers, Makenzie Kimble, Alexandra Greathouse, Katie Mars, Shianne Ferrell, and Abigail Kemp. Each contestant had to provide a formal resume as well as participate in on-stage introductions, interview portion, talent portion and evening gown competition.The Miss Knight Pageant was emceed by senior Ted Stackpole, while senior Luke Daugherty escorted the ladies on stage. Also, Maggie Fisher provided a soft melody from the piano while the contestants took to the stage.
Miss Knight Shianne Ferrell is the 18-year-old daughter of Stacy and Mike Ferrell. Shianne has marched with the TCHS Knights Marching Band since her eighth grade year. In her senior year, she had the privilege of being named field commander. She is a new member of the Pride of West Virginia, the WVU Marching Band. Shianne will also play the saxophone during football season for the WVU Basketball Pep Bands as well as playing the flute for WVU Concert Band.Some of Shianne’s classes clubs and activities at TCHS have included: Human Anatomy, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus, Psychology, Chemistry, Forensics, Theater, Spanish, Marching, Concert, and Jazz Band. Further activities include Theatre Club, Senior Art Committee, TCHS Knights Marching, Concert, and Jazz Bands, School Plays, Prom Club, and Project PediatricsShianne plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Psychology by taking classes in biology, chemistry, math, and physics in order to meet medical school admission requirements. She plans to pursue a medical degree to become a psychiatrist.Some of Shianne’s honors include: Honor Roll Grades 9-12, Highest Score Anatomy, Elks Student of the Month,
National Thespian Society, Superior Rating for Solo on Flute, First Place Field Commander Buckhannon WV Strawberry Festival Parade and Point Pleasant, St. Marys Community Concert Band, Community Service Award, and Elks Award in Performing Arts.The Miss Knight First Runner-up was announced as being Alexandra Greathouse. Greathouse is the 17-year-old daughter of Roger and Nadine Greathouse. Now to be considered a recent graduate from Tyler Consolidated High School, Alexandra’s career and educational plans have led her to Northern Community College for the Medical Assisting field. This occupation will require her to have leadership skills, good record keeping, and public speaking skills. The past four years of high school, Alexandra has been a member of the Tyler FFA which has allowed her to become a better public speaker, a more cooperative public listener, and to be the best leader/ role model for the younger students within the Future Farmers of America organization. Even though her four years of being an FFA member have come to a close, she fully intends on becoming an FFA Alumni member for many years to come.Between the Queen and First Runner-up, almost $1,000 in scholarship funds were awarded. The scholarships were sponsored by TCHS Student Council, TCHS Yearbook, TCHS Junior Class, and TCHS SADD. Each winner also received flowers, crown, and sash. TCHS hopes for the pageant to grow, gaining more contestants and anticipation for offering an even larger scholarship.
