Chamber of Commerce Holds ‘Pay It Forward’ Event
The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce held a“Pay it Forward” event which allowed nonprofit organizations to compete for funding that will be used for projects that will positively impact the community. Nonprofits from Tyler County, Wetzel County and Monroe County were eligible to competer for the grand prize of 2,100 dollars sponsored by Williams Energy and the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley. The second place winner received 1,100 dollars, sponsored by Doolin Security Savings and Loans and Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union, and third place received 550 dollars, sponsored by McDonalds and Paden City Development Authority.

This years community projects included: Friends of Paden City Pool -Paden City Pool 2018 Season, Necessities Barn First Church of God Necessities Barn, New Martinsville Rotary – “KIC” Kids in Crisis, Paden City High School Band Paden City Band Travel Fund, The Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center Community Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness Campaign, Town of Hundred Flood Recovery 2017, Tyler County Community Resources Inc. – Helping Hands Senior Pantry, Wetzel County Community Resources Inc. – Honoring Aging Veterans, Wetzel County Emergency Ambulance Authority Inc. – Flood Damaged Ambulance Replacement, Wetzel County Hope and Memories- Wetzel County Hope and Memories Concession Stand.
Each presenter had five minutes to explain why they felt their cause was worthy of receiving donations. After the allotted time, panel members were then able to ask questions regarding the spending of the funds. Everyone in attendance at the meeting was given a ballot to vote for whom they felt best deserved the available funding.
The grand prize winner of 2,100 dollars went to the Necessities Barn who provide clothing, soap, and other basic necessities to members of the community. The second place winner of 1.100 dollars went to Paden City High School Band to be used for band travel. The third place winner of 550 dollars went to Friends of Paden City Pool for the 2018 season.
