David Kelly Appointed Tyler Commissioner

By Staff | Jul 12, 2017

New Commissioner David Kelly is sworn in by Judge Cramer at the courthouse.

The Tyler County Commissioners held a special meeting on July 3rd to announce the newly appointed Commissioner to finish out the term for Charles “Pork” Smith who recently announced his retirement.

Commissioner Vincent stated, “I would like to thank everyone who was interested in this position. Last week seemed to turn into a storm of accusations and finger pointing. He continued, “I went back to the code, the code clearly states that this is an appointed position”. “We have 30 days after the resignation we have to report, technically we didn’t have to take applications, we could have appointed someone that we wish right off the bat. Because we did get applications, the meeting on the 14th, we went into executive session to discuss personnel matters.”

Commissioner John Stender added, “It was a pretty lengthy discussion on what we should do.” Stender continued, “My personal belief is that I don’t want to give anyone a leg up, I would like for the county to decide. There were quite a few candidates who’s resumes were good.” Finally, Commissioner Sender made a motion to accept David Kelly as the next newest commissioner, seconded by Commissioner Vincent. Congratulations goes out to Mr. Kelly.
