Radiothon Set For Sistersville Ferryboat
The Sistersville Ferryboat Radio-Thon Fundraiser will take place from 4 p.m. Friday May 19 to 4 p.m. Saturday May 20 on 91.5 FM Knights Radio (stream at wrsgradio.com), and they’re pleased to announce that promotions of it have already resulted in several pledges/donations for the ferry service! The Sistersville Ferry Board and Knights Radio 91.5 WRSG are extremely grateful for the enthusiasm. So far, they have received: monetary pledges from Doolin Security Savings Bank of New Martinsville, West Virginia and St Marys Galaxy Food Center; gift certificates from Bombshell Hair Studio and Sistersville Area Ministries, to give away during the event; a brand-new recliner from King’s Corner to be won as part of a silent, call-in auction during the event; and a month of promotions on Knights Radio for any business/organization that pledges/donates a minimum of $30.
For local businesses and organizations that would like to become radio-thon sponsors by pledging $250 (or a prize worth that amount) ahead of the radio-thon, the following is offered: previously mentioned promotion on Knights Radio; sponsorship mention at the top and middle of every hour during the radiothon, for 24 hours; mentioned as a sponsor on Facebook pages with thousands of members/followers; mention in Letters to the Editor thanking donors.
In 2014, Sistersville Council voted to close down the Sistersville Ferry early for that year’s season due to financial hardship. Concerned that the ferry may not open for the 2015 season unless something was done, civic volunteers and community members came together and began a series of fundraisers that resulted in more than $20,000 to save the historic service.
One of those fundraisers was a 24-hour “radio-thon” on 91.5 FM Knights Radio WRSG. The hosts remained on air during that time as supporters called and messaged with pledges.
Many individuals donated more than $400 a piece, sponsoring an entire day of operations. The amount pledged was approximately $5,000, but even more was donated following the event.
In honor of their successful efforts and the ferry service’s 200th year of operation, which was recognized in March by a West Virginia Senate Proclamation, members of the Sistersville Ferryboat Board are holding another 24-hour radio-thon fundraiser.
This time the minimum goal is $10,000, and they are hopeful that you will support this cause. They will also heavily promote your generosity on various social media pages relating to the Sistersville Ferry.
Because the Sistersville Ferry can now draw funds from a Rural Transit Grant administered through the WV Division of Public Transit, they are eligible to receive another dollar for every dollar donated.
That means every donation goes twice as far! The minimum goal of $10,000 in donations would effectively become $20,000 after drawing from the grant. There is no ceiling to the amount that can be matched!
Pledges can be made during the event by calling 304-758-9007, 304-758-9000 ext. 224, or 304-771-8835.
If you have any questions or are interested in discussing a possible donation ahead of time, please call Ferry Board Member Alex King at 304-771-8835. Any prizes to give out to individuals who pledge will also be greatly appreciated.
A few key notes to know about the Sistersville Ferry is that it opened for the season on May 4, 2017. Days and hours of operation are as follows: Thursdays, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sundays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
