Sistersville Man Convicted on Child Abuse Charge
MIDDLEBOURNE A Sistersville man was convicted recently for child abuse and assault charges in Tyler County Circuit Court.
A jury declared Christopher Dodrill guilty of felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury to a child under the age of 18 and felony unlawful assault Jan. 13 before Second Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Cramer. Dodrill, 25, will be sentenced at a later date.
“Justice was served and the case was a great deal of work,” said Tyler County Prosecutor D. Luke Furbee. “I’m satisfied with the result.”
The incident occurred Nov. 3 in Tyler County when the child sustained an injury that required medical treatment at area hospitals, according to court documents.
Police said the girl had injuries indicative of being shaken or blunt force trauma.
Dodrill told investigators that the girl fell off the couch and landed on her head, according to court documents.
Two doctors testified that Dodrill’s story didn’t explain the injuries the child, Furbee said. Dr. Sharon Istfan, a pediatrician with the Charleston Area Medical Center, testified that the child was fortunate not to have any lasting health problems. Furbee said the child has recovered from injuries sustained.
Dodrill is serving time from a previous conviction at the Salem Correctional Center.
