Sheriff Investigating Home Invasion
MIDDLEBOURNE Tyler County Sheriffs Office is investigating an armed nighttime home invasion on Oil Ridge Road that left an elderly couple injured.
The robbery occurred at around 1:45 a.m. Saturday. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 304-758-2911. The investigation is ongoing.
“We’ve got guys working around the clock to put this together,” said Tyler County Sheriff Earl Kendle Jr.
Relatives have identified the victims as Paul and Janice Wells, longtime residents of Tyler County.
Paul Wells, 88, and his wife, Janice, who will be 83 on Thursday, were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. They are recovering slowly from injuries sustained in the assault, said their daughter-in-law Janet Shepherd Wells. Paul Wells was able to return home Saturday from the hospital, Janet Wells said, but his wife was still being treated for her injuries Monday, though she is conscious and alert. Janet Wells said the couple sustained head injuries. during the attack.
“Their injuries are not life threatening,” she said. “Please say a prayer for their physical and mental healing.”
Paul and Janice Wells attended Tyler County High school. Paul Wells retired from Conalco and Janice Wells from the Wetzel Tyler Health Department. They tended to their farm on Oil Ridge Road.
