Police Investigate Discovery of Burned Body
The West Virginia State Police are leading the investigation into a burned body found early Tuesday in Wetzel County.
Police were called to Wetzel County where a body was located just beyond Hawkey Hill, less than a mile south of the Marshall County border.
Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Cecil said deputies were called to the scene at about 1 a.m. today by a passing motorist who noticed a fire on the side of the road.
Fire crews responded to the site and police were called as the scene was secured by deputies.
Volunteers from St. Joseph’s Settlement Volunteer Fire Department assisted police in securing the area, which remained closed except to local residents through this morning.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene, but was withdrawn once the location was determined to be outside their jurisdiction.
No further details were provided by State Police officials who remained on the scene at presstime.
