Grant Brings Counseling Services To Elementary

A representative of the Wellspring Social Services approached the Tyler County Board of Education on Monday, Sept. 21, meeting concerning services that they can offer to the county through a grant.

Joe King from the Wellspring Social Services stated that they would be providing counseling support through the grant to three counties including Hancock and Brooke and would like to include Tyler County.

He mentioned he has been meeting with Melinda Walton,Tyler County Director of Special Education and Attendance and Superintendent of Schools Robin Daqulante to try and provide services through counseling to children who are experiencing problems.

The counseling would be for student support for select students at Sistersville Elementary School. King said the grant is for pre-k to first grade. Walton spoke to the board about certain types of problems she experiences with children who have issues at home. She stated she is very much in favor of Wellspring working through the grant to provide any help they can.

The board was informed that background checks would be done on every counselor that works with the school. Board members were all in favor of supporting a program that provides services to select students within their school district. The board voted unanimously to allow Wellspring to provide counseling services to Sistersville Elementary School.

Requests approved for Tyler Consolidated Middle School 2015-16 Boys and Girls Basketball.

Other Requests:

Katrina Byers was approved for the Tyler County Family Resource Network to use the former board office area at Tyler Consolidated to hold meetings. Dates to be coordinated with Ryan Walton.

Ryan Walton, Tyler Consolidated HS/MS Athletic Director, was approved for the following board employees to be permitted to transport athletes to and from away volleyball events: Richard Summers, Tracy Summers, Katie Klages, Christy Jones, Shawna Griffin, Jacki Long, Kent Yoho, Ryan Walton, and Melinda Walton.

Cheryl Lynn Shreves was approved for her children, John William Trampis and Brionna Nicole Headley, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Ray Booher was approved for his son, David Christian, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Sabrina Buchanan was approved for her son, Jace Reed, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of education.

Jennifer Lantz was approved for her son, Nathan Lantz, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of education.

Betty Musgrave was approved for her son, Gabriel McClain, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of education.

Carla and Matt Hudson was approved for their children, Colt Hudson and Levi Hudson, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of education.

Linda Duncan,TCMS Counselor, was approved for the Tyler Consolidated MS/HS STARS group to be permitted to attend a multi-county leadership meeting at the Barn at Woodridge on October 7, 2015, with bus for transportation.

Terri McCoy, TCHS Counselor, was approved to take approximately twenty high school students to Ohio Valley University on September 23, 2015 to attend the iBelieve RESA Leadership Summit, with bus for transportation.

Krista DeVaughn, SES Principal, was approved for all students to attend the Harvest Festival on October 2, 2015, with buses for transportation.

Sarah Morgan was approved for twelve weeks of unpaid medical leave from November 16, 2015 through February 26, 2016.

Scott Wall, TCHS Social Studies Teacher, was approved for two days of professional leave to attend the Evaluation Leadership Institute in Parkersburg on October 20 and 21, 2015.

The resignation of Cathy Boggs, Assistant Softball Coach, Tyler Consolidated High School, was approved, effective immediately.

Stefanie Suter was approved to be employed as Social Studies Fair Coordinator at Sistersville Elementary School, effective September 22, 2015.

Stefanie Suter was approved to be employed as Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Tyler Consolidated High School, effective September 22, 2015.

Jim Cochran and Rodney Hayes were approved to be employed as Substitute Bus Operators, Countywide, effective September 22, 2015.

The next Regular Meeting will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tyler County Board of Education Office located on Dodd Street in Middlebourne.
