BOE Approves Requests

On Tuesday Aug. 4, at their regular scheduled meeting the Tyler County Board of Education approved the following requests for employment, transfers, resignations and agreements:

Julia Bolen, Nutrition Outreach Instructor, for the use of the home economics classroom at Tyler Consolidated High School during the weeks of September 14, September 21, October 5, October 19, November 2, November 16, November 30 and December 7, to hold an 1Cook youth program. Bolen also explained the program to the board.

Christie Curran, for her daughters, Quinn Curran and Madison Curran, to be released from Tyler County Schools in order to attend Doddridge county schools for the 2015-16 school year.

Jae C. Lehew, for her son, Quintin Richmond, to be permitted to cross county lines in order to continue attending Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year.

Leann America, for her sons, Jacob America and Dalton America, to be released from Tyler county schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Doddridge County Board of Education.

Becki Ruble, approved for the Middlebourne Baptist Church to use the grassy field across from old Tyler County High School to hold a community family fun day on August 15, 2015.

Melissa Smith, approved to use the auditorium, concessions, choir or band room and parking lot at Tyler Consolidated High school on September 20, 2015 to hold the Middle Island Harvest Festival Pageant.

Troy Smith, transportation director, approved to take a school bus to the Tyler County fair to allow drivers to participate in the bus rodeo on August 8, 2015.

Susan Boyles, curriculum director, approved for Grand Canyon University student Michael Williamson to observe a seventh grade math class, a tenth grade math class and a special needs pull out math class for a course titled “reading and literacy strategies for middle and secondary schools.” He will also work with the classroom teachers to develop and present a mini lesson for each class. These observations will begin August 17, 2015 and end on September 17, 2015.

Melinda Walton, Director of Special Education, approved for the following interagency agreements for the 2015-16 school year: Tyler County schools and division of vocational rehabilitation: Tyler county schools and West Virginia birth to three; and Tyler county schools and AFL-CIO Appalachian council, Inc. head start.

Crystal Mann, for her children, Issac Mann and Lacey Mann, to be released from Tyler County Schools for the 2015-16 school year, pending approval from Doddridge County Board of Education.

Wayne Smith, band director, was approved to take the marching band to the following events: Williamstown, Cameron, St. Mary’s, Valley and Oak Glen football games; Band competitions at Ripley, Spencer and Charleston; Paden City Labor Day parade, Sistersville Oil and Gas Festival Parade, Middlebourne Alumni Parade, Sistersville Halloween Parade, Sistersville Christmas Parade and Middlebourne Christmas parade, with buses for transportation.

The following resignations were approved by the board:

Steven Blake, math teacher, Tyler Consolidated high school, effective immediately.

Carl Kucharski, substitute teacher, countywide, effective immediately.

Carol Ann Kucharski, substitute teacher, countywide, effective immediately.

Steven Blake, mathematics teacher and student council advisor at Tyler Consolidated high school, and head wrestling coach at Tyler Consolidated middle school, effective immediately.

Steven Blake, assistant football coach, Tyler Consolidated high school, effective September 10, 2015.

Abby Jo Robinson, head cheerleading coach at Tyler Consolidated high school, and yearbook advisor at Tyler Consolidated middle school, both effective immediately.

Stefanie Suter, assistant cheerleading coach at Tyler Consolidated high school, effective immediately.

The following employments and transfers were approved by the board:

Approval of contractual agreements with RESA 5 for the positions of half-time school Psychologist and full-time computer repair technician.

Approved contracted services for OT/PT services with Easter Seals rehabilitation cent, for the 2015-18 school year.

Approved Paula Lang, for contracted services for vision service for the 2015-16 school year.

Approved Integrated speech solutions, LLC, for speech services for the 2015-16 school year.

Employed Jessica Stine, as substitute teacher, county wide, effective immediately.

Transferred Jimmy Newbrough, electrician 1, general maintenance worker and heavy equipment operator, countywide, effective August 5, 2015

Transferred Ron Fletcher, from bus # and route 14 to bus number and route 10, effective immediately.

Transfer or employ Judy Thoburn as a third grade teacher at Sistersville elementary school, effective immediately.

Employ Miranda Nichols, itinerant special education aide and autism mentor at Sistersville Elementary School, effective immediately.

Employ Alicia Craven, itinerant special education aide and autism mentor at Tyler Consolidated middle school, effective immediately.

Employ Nancy Kester as an itinerant aide for telespeech assistance and coordination countywide with initial placement at A.I. Boreman elementary school.

Employ or transfer Tracy Koontz as the Cook 111 and cafeteria manager at A.I. Boreman elementary school, effective immediately.

The board also approved the following policies for the school year: Tyler County Policy: DA Fiscal Management, Tyler County Policy: DB Budget – Annual Operating, Tyler County Policy: DC Revenue – Local Tax,Tyler County Policy: DD Revenues from Nontax Sources,Tyler County Policy: DE Revenues from Investments, Tyler County Policy: DF Budget Reconciliation, Tyler County Policy: DG Debt Limitation, Tyler County Policy: DH Property and Equipment Sale, Tyler County Policy: DI Inventorie, Tyler County Policy: DJ Purchasing Requirements, Tyler County Policy: DK Bonded Employee, Officers and Institutions, Tyler County Policy: DL Depository of Funds, Tyler County Policy: DM Expense Reimbursements, Tyler County Policy: DO Purchase Card

The following polices were placed on a two week comment period: Tyler County Policy: GLB Sick and Personal Leave Incentive Program, Tyler County Policy: GLC Early Retirement Notification, and Tyler County Policy: GL Leave for Illness and Other Causes.
