LEPC Maps Out Plans

By Staff | Jul 8, 2015

The Local Emergency Planning Committee held its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 2 to discuss several issues.

Tom Cooper, director for the Tyler County Office of Emergency Management, stated that the LEPC has recently applied for the $2,000 State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) grant. There is still $1,000 left over from the 2014 grant.

The 2015 SERC Conference will held at Camp Dawson Oct. 13-16. They are able to fund three people to go.

The REPS Inc. is planning on starting the 2015 Commodity Flow Study either in July or August. The Commodity Flow Study is when the hazardous waste that is moving through the county on various modes of transportation is counted. A camera will be set up to count the trucks carrying these materials.

Hero’s Day will be celebrated on Sept. 12 and part of the Vietnam Wall will be brought in for display and the Vietnam veterans will be officially welcomed home.

A homeless count will be conducted in Tyler County, they ask that if there is anybody that knows of anyone who is local and homeless to please pass the information. This is Tyler County’s first year to participate.

“The way the count works is we talk to as many agencies as we can and try to locate where these people maybe and then we go to these locations and try to find these people.

“In the past, they have said there is no one in Tyler County and I have had a couple names come up. If anyone has any input on that, knows of anyone or knows someone we should talk to, we appreciate it,” said Cooper.

The next LEPC meeting will be held at the Middlebourne Senior Center on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m.
