2015-16 School Calendar Approved
The Tyler County Board of Education approved the 2015-16 school calendar last week.
For the current school year, the last day for Tyler Consolidated students will be June 16 while staff members will be expected to attend until June 17. For next year, staff members will begin on Aug. 10 and students will begin their school year on Aug. 13.
Also at the meeting, Patti Kester, employee of the janitorial services department for Tyler Consolidated Middle and High School, was chosen as the Tyler County Personnel Employee of the Year. Kester has 11 years of service with Tyler Consolidated.
In other matters:
- Robin Daquilante, superintendent for Tyler County Schools, spoke about Greg Goodfellow’s leadership with the most recent WRSG Radio-thon. The Radio-thon took place over a period of 24 hours and was held to raise money for the Sistersville Ferry. Alex King stated that to date, over $4000 pledged has been collected.
Amanda Kimble, director of Support Services, requested that Alaina Thompson, Garry Seckman and Noah Smith be permitted to attend the Golden Horseshoe Ceremony on May 1 at the state Capitol in Charleston. Transport will be provided by their parents in personal vehicles.
Linda Yoho, SES teacher, requested permission to take the kindergarten classes to the Tyler Consolidated High School Greenhouse, Domino’s Pizza located in Paden City and the Paden Farm on Buck Run on May 8 using a bus for transportation.
Linda Duncan, TCMS guidance counselor, requested permission that the Super Teen Achieving Regional Success be permitted to attend the STARS Awards Luncheon at WVU-Parkersburg on April 23 using a bus for transportation.
Darlene Koerber, HI-Y advisor, asked permission to chaperon a total of 14 students to Youth in Government from April 24 through April 26 in Charleston, with bus for transportation. She requested the board pay for the bus, and grant her professional leave on April 24.
Brian Bailey, SES music specialist, requested that the SES 4th and 5th grade choir be permitted to perform during the Sistersville High School Alumni Chapel Program on May 20 with bus for transportation.
Luke Reynolds, cross country coach for Tyler Consolidated High School, had his resignation approved by the board and is effective immediately. Chad Gruber, National Junior Honor Society Advisor, was also approved for his resignation which will be in effect at the end of the school year.
Two employments were also approved. Mary Baker for county wide substitute teacher which began April 22, and Patrick Shepherd, bus operator for bus #17 and #42 will begin his position May 1.
The next meeting will take place on May 4 with the Tyler Consolidated High School and Middle School Local Schools Improvement Council. It will be held at the Tyler Consolidated High School Library at 6 p.m. which will be followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
