DAR chapter recognizes contributions
The monthly meeting of the Ohio Valley Chapter DAR was held March 21 at the Pleasants County Senior Center in St. Marys, W.Va.
The meeting was called to order by Regent Susie Rogers. Officer and committee reports were given.
Arrangements are being finalized for the WVDAR State Conference at Oglebay Park and Conference Center to be held in April. Delegates to the Conference will be Marilyn Rogers, Frannie Weekley, Neoma Spratt, Pat Bills, Lee Eddy, Nola Parks, Doris Haught, and Anna Carson.
Mindy Davis, WVDAR Vice Regent, and Susie Rogers, Chapter Regent, were chosen as
the Chapter Delegates to the Continental Congress in Washington, D.C., in June.
Frances Weekley reported receiving George Bryd Stoking’s Family Bible and scrapbook/journal from Dorothy DeYoung in Phoenix, Ariz. The books are a donation to the Ohio Valley Chapter and date back to late 1800s.
In the afternoon, the chapter welcomed guests for a presentation of awards for Community Leadership.
Vice Regent Tina Jenkins presented a certificate for Historic Preservation to Hilda Hays Wright for the many projects she has completed for Tyler County.
Community Service certificates were presented to Kim Frum, Paden City, and Martha Thomas, Sistersville, for their dedicated service to their communities. Amy Haught, director of Council of Senior Tyler Countians, accepted the award for the proper display of the American Flag at the Tyler County
Centers. Paden City High School was also recognized for the Proper Display of the American Flag.
WVDAR Vice Regent Mindy Davis presented Marilyn Sue Strickling Rogers with a certificate for 50 years of DAR Membership.
Regent Rogers presented certificates for Years of Membership to Doris Ellen Kile Haught, five years; Lucinda Christina Horner Jenkins, 16 years; and Patricia Joanne Bills, 35 years.
Receiving Years of Membership Certificates but unable to attend the meeting were Mary Coulson Moody, five years; Barbara Ansel Carl, five years; Gretchen Danette Weekley Tome, 15 years; Doretta Nalley Morrison, 16 years; Barbara Barney Thibodeaux, 16 years; Catherine Michele Barney, 10 years; Wanda Lee Dotson Oliver, 20 years; and Dreama Diane Oliver, 20 years.
Following the presentation of certificates a reception was held in honor of the awardees.
