Two Students Attend conference

By Staff | Jan 8, 2015

Teenagers, including two from Tyler County, tackled the question, “What’s your freedom for?” in three days of intensive interaction with peers from across Ohio and West Virginia.

The Nov. 14-16 leadership conference-an event sponsored by the Ohio-West Virginia Youth Leadership Association-challenged teens to take up the responsibilities of citizenship in their communities.

Harriett Tubman, portrayed by Ilene Evans with Voices from the Earth, wove together the arts, culture, history, music, song, and Harriett’s call to take up the lantern of freedom with YLA’s special focus on leadership and civic engagement. Three days of fun, action, learning, and community building saw teens return home with new insights and commitments to use freedom for good.

This program was presented with financial assistance through a grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
