B.O.E. gives approval for requests
The Tyler County Board of Education met Monday evening and approved several requests.
The board approved a trip request from Susan Boyles, executive director of curriculum and instruction, to allow Robert Jones to chaperone and transport four Tyler County participants to Charleston, W.Va., from Feb. 11-13 to participate in the 32nd annual West Virginia Youth and Government Seminar for eighth grade students.
Boyles was also granted approval of the Standing Instructional Material Committees for the 2014-15 school year.
The board will allow Terrisa Fragmin’s daughter, Breanna Riley, to be released from Tyler County School in order to attend Doddridge County Schools for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from the Doddridge County Board of Education. Also, Leslie Worzalla’s daughter, Laney Worzalla, is released from Tyler County School in order to attend Pleasants County Schools for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from the Wetzel County Board of Education.
Joyce Hagerty obtained permission for the Relay for Life team to use the Tyler Consolidated High School/Middle School football/soccer/ concession stand areas to hold a Booting Out Cancer event on May 29 and 30 and also to use the TCHS Library one day a month, January through May, to hold meetings.
Melinda Walton was granted permission for the Club Volleyball Team to use the TCHS gym to hold practices on Sundays from Jan. 11 through May 3. Only coaches and athletes will be permitted in the building during these practices. She also obtained permission for the Tyler County Drug Coalition to use the TCHS auditorium on march 8 to hold a drug education session.
The following employments or transfers were approved:
Employ Bob West as assistant varsity football coach at TCHS, effective July 1.
Employ Warren Grace as principal mentor at TCMS, effective immediately.
Employ Christy Jones as countywide substitute teacher, effective Jan. 6.
The next regular board meeting will be held Jan. 20, 7 p.m., at the Tyler County Board of Education office located on Dodd St., Middlebourne.
