Tippins takes council seat
For Tonya Tippins, things took an interesting turn at Sistersville’s Council meeting Dec. 8.
Last month, both Tonya Tippins and Jerry Morris came forward as interested parties for the 4th Ward council seat which was previously held by Rachel Marrin. In a 5-1 vote, Tippins was selected.
Tippins grew upon Buck Run before moving to Sistersville, where she resided for five years before moving to Paden City. She resided in Paden City for seven years before moving back to Sistersville for the last six years.
Tippins has been involved in the community for the last 10 years, being directly involved in the playground project. She then began pursuing an interest in city council a year and a half ago, missing only two meetings since she started attending them.
She said she first began attending council meetings because she wanted to learn more about the water systems and that she “believes a better water system is needed.”
“Basically, I just want to help people better the town,” she said. “I think we have a beautiful town and I think it could come into so much more if the community would get involved. It is my hope to be a part of that.”
Tippins said anyone who lives in the 4th Ward and has any questions or concerns that they feel need brought up in the council meetings, they can contact her 304-652-4345.
