Weather cancels local activities

By Staff | Dec 10, 2014

As is tradition, the Tyler Consolidated High School Marching Silver Knight band will lead both the Sistersville and Middlebourne parades this weekend.

Rainy cold weather caused the cancellation of both Sistersville and Middlebourne’s annual Christmas parades last week. Both parades have been rescheduled for this weekend.

The Sistersville Community Service Organization will sponsor the Sistersville Christmas Parade with the theme “A Picture Perfect Christmas” on Friday in the downtown area. David and Audist Pancake will serve as Parade Marshal’s for this years event.

Tyler Consolidated High School’s Marching Silver Knight band will lead the parade along Wells St. as is tradition at 7 p.m. Floats and parade units will meet to line-up at the Ferry landing at 6:30 p.m. Businesses, organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in the parade.

As further encouragement to get parade entries, cash prizes will be given to the four most popular units in the parade: first place, $50; and 2nd through 4th place, $25 each.

Shortly before the parade the City of Sistersville will be holding a celebration in front of the City Building on 200 Diamond Street.

Several local entertainers will begin singing Christmas songs at 5 p.m., and the jubilation will continue at 6:30 p.m., at which time the mayor will light up a town Christmas tree outside of the City Building. The tree will be decorated by students of Sistersville Elementary School. However, anyone who would like to add an ornament honoring or remembering a loved one is welcome to do so. Free hot chocolate and cookies being served before the parade begins. And of course, Santa Claus himself will arrive in town with the assistance of the Sistersville Volunteer Fire Dept. and greet children at the Gaslight Theater after the parade ends.

In order to involve more businesses, the SCSO will offer a $25 cash prize for the business with the best “Theme” decorated window or store front.

Groups and organizations are invited to set up baked good tables and stands along the sidewalks of Wells St. the night of the parade and businesses are encouraged to stay open later.
