Enrollment is down in Tyler schools

By Staff | Oct 29, 2014

Enrollment in Tyler County has decreased, according to a report given to the Tyler County Board of Education at their Oct. 20 meeting.

Tyler County Superintendent of Schools Robin Daquilante said this year the county is showing a decrease of 44 students in all grades combined.

While the numbers could change as the year goes on, that is where they stand after two months. It is also the point at which the state requires boards of education to turn in their enrollment numbers.

It is from those enrollment numbers, among other factors, that the state funding formula is derived.

The Board approved the following requests:

Linda Yoho, SES Kindergarten Teacher, to take all kindergarten students to the Sistersville Fire Department, post office, and city building on Oct. 24, with a bus for transportation.

Other requests: Don Stokes, from Elks Lodge #333, was given permission for the Elks to use the Sistersville Elementary School Gym, cafeteria, and restrooms on Dec. 13 to hold the youth community hoop shoot.

Bradley Willey, was granted permission for his daughter, Amanda Willey, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending release from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Joseph and Christina Henthorn, approved for their daughter, Logann Henthorn, to be released from Tyler County Schools in order to attend Wetzel County Schools for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Jeff Davis, treasurer, was approved by the board for travel expenses for the South Eastern Association of School Business Official Leadership Summit in January. He was also approved for professional leave April 13-17, 2015, to attend the Spring SASBO in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at no expense to the county board.

Darlene Koerber and Charlene Galluzzo, TCMS and SES, respectively, physical education teachers, were approved for professional leave on Oct. 30 and 31 to attend the West Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance in Flatwoods.

Resignations: Julie R. Williamson, Bus operator, effective Oct. 6; and Matt Kinnard, as girls high school basketball coach, effective immediately.

Employments and transfers: Approval to employ Christina Wilkinson, LPN/Aide at SES, pending clear CIB results.

Athletic schedules: The board approved the Tyler Consolidated High School 2015 softball schedule.

The next regular meeting of the board will be held on Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m., at the Tyler County Board of Education Office located on Dodd Street in Middlebourne.
