Board office makes the move to Middlebourne
The Tyler County Board of Education recently completed a much anticipated move from Tyler Consolidated High School back to Middlebourne in the board property located behind the former Tyler County High School, at 114 Dodd Street.
In 1994 when the county consolidated the two high schools the board office remained in Middlebourne and continued there for a few years until the former office was condemned. At that point the board moved into the new high school where they have been located ever since.
Plans from the beginning of the move were to relocate back to Middlebourne, in the former vocational building. However, over time the building was used for adult basic education and later some remodeling was done to accommodate pre-schoolers. Recently the pre-schoolers were incorporated into the Arthur I. Boreman facility.
This freed up the building for what the board had originally intended-a move back to Middlebourne.
Work began almost immediately to put up partitions for offices and other minor repairs to prepare the building for the transition.
Superintendent Robin Daquilante said, “This is something which is long overdue, it will free up much needed office space at the high school and allow the board to function more efficiently.”
Daquilante said, very little remodeling was needed as new windows had been installed and the heating and cooling systems were fairly new. She also said the phone number for the board office will remain the same.
Plans are for the next regular scheduled board meeting to be held on Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the new office on Dodd Street.
With the move to Middlebourne, the Tyler County Board of Education office now houses Superintendent Robin Daquilante and her secretary Janet Wells; Duane Dober, Director of Human Resources, and his secretary Jan Kirk, who also works half time at the bus garage; Susan Boyles, Director of curriculum and instruction; Melinda Walton, Director of special education, administrator of education for pre-school, and attendance director; Amanda Kimble, Director of child nutrition and safety for all Tyler County Schools and testing coordinator; Sharron Garrison secretary for Walton and Kimble; Jeff Davis, treasurer and chief business officer for Tyler County Schools; Mandy Fetty, accountant and payroll specialist; and Kathy Michael, accounts payable coordinator.
