New Tyler County Board of Education members. Scott Strode, Bonnie Henthorn and Jimmy Wyatt, took the oath of office on Monday at the Board Office.

Newly elected board of education members Jimmy Wyatt, Bonnie Henthorn, and Scott Strode were sworn in for four-year terms to the board during the Tyler County Board of Education on Monday evening.

Election of officers was also held with Henthorn elected as president by a vote of three to two. Elected as vice president of the board was P.J. Wells by unanimous vote of the board.

Henthorn appointed the following members to the listed committees: Extension Service, Wells; Mid Ohio Valley Technical Institute Council, Wyatt; RESA Council, Henthorn; Library Boards, Linda Hoover; and Five Year Plan Update Committee, Scott Strode.

Superintendent Robin Daquilante reported on the WVDE-recommended annual resolution to retain legal counsel throughout the year, if needed. Henthorn questioned the cost of retaining the law firm and Tyler County Schools Treasurer Jeff Davis explained the budget for legal counsel is $10,500 per year. He said as of June 30 of this year the board has spent $4,100. The board unanimously approved the resolution.

The board approved the Board of Education meeting dates for the year, with a change from Aug. 4 to Aug. 5.

Under staff reports: Superintendent Daquilante, gave a report on end of year attendance. She said the end result is the county is down 14 students from last year.

Under financial: Approval was given for United Dairy as the milk supplier for the 2014-15 school year.

Budget revision requests submitted prior to June 30 were approved.

The board approved the following policies: Tyler County Policy: 1A Basic Instructional Programs. Tyler County Policy: 1C Graduation Requirements, Tyler County Policy: 1L Organization of Instruction, Tyler County Policy: IR Instructional Term/School Year, Tyler County Policy: IAA Instructional/Accrued Instructional Time, and Tyler County Policy: IAD Experiential Learning. Superintendent Daquilante noted there was very little change if any in the policies. She said these policies come up for review every three years, unless there is something that needs to be changed. The board voted three to one for approval. With Wells casting the lone vote against. Board President Bonnie Henthorn abstained from voting.

Tyler County Policy: IAE College and Dual Credit was presented for review and a two-week comment period. This policy deals with students wishing to take college credit classes. This year they will be offering two classes at a cost of $75 per class. The board will review this policy for two weeks and vote on it at the next meeting.

The board unanimously approved the Tyler Consolidated High School 2014 Golf Schedule.

The board also unanimously approved requests from; Joe Griffith, golf coach, for players to accompany him to the rules clinic. He was also approved for the following drivers: Tracy Summers, Coach David Tucker, and Coach Griffith. Permission was given to take members to LKC, OVAC, and Regional Tournament locations for a practice round and to hold an end-of-season dinner with location and time to be determined at a later date.

Tommy Phillips was given permission for the TyCon Knights Youth League to use the football field, locker rooms, and concession stand on Aug. 16, Aug. 23, Sept. 21, and Oct. 11 for football games and officer meetings.

James and Tammy Strother were granted permission for their son, Jonathan Strother, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Cheryl Shreves was granted permission for her children, John William Trampis Headley and Brinna Nicole Headley, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from the Wetzel County Board of Education.

Linda Duncan was granted permission for her daughter, Jahnvi Duncan, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Crystal Pugh for her son, Gabriel McClain, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from the Wetzel County Board of Education.

Matt and Carla Hudson were given permission for their children, Matthew Levi Hudson and Colt V. Hudson, to cross county lines in order for them to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Tony Glover was granted permission for his son, Dillon Glover, to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from the Wetzel County Board of Education.

Amanda Anderson was granted permission for her daughter, Isabella Anderson, to be released from Tyler County Schools, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education.

Melinda Walton was granted permission to destroy special education records that no longer need to be maintained.

The board unanimously approved the following resignations: Kenneth Lancaster, bus operator, Bus # 10, resignation by retirement, effective June 18. Leticia Wall, Title 1 Reading Specialist, A.I. Boreman Elementary School, effective immediately. Leticia Wall, Head Girls’ Basketball Coach, Tyler Consolidated Middle School, effective immediately.

The board also unanimously approved the following employments, transfers, and rescissions: Employ Paden Morris, Special Education Teacher, Tyler Consolidated High School, effective immediately; Easter seals rehabilitation center for OT/PT services; Paula Lang for vision services; Tyler County Schools and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Interagency Agreement; Tyler County Schools and W.Va. Birth to Three Interagency Agreement; Tyler County Schools and AFL-CIO Appalachian Council, Inc. Head Start Interagency Agreement; rescind the reduction in force of Amanda Spencer and restore her to her position as bus operator on Bus Route # 35, effective immediately; employ Joe Semple, mentor teacher, Tyler Consolidated Middle and High Schools, effective immediately; transfer Cynthia DiLuca from special education teacher at Sistersville Elementary School to first grade teacher at SES, effective immediately; and employ Alexis Billings, secretary II, AIB, effective immediately.

Approval was given for authorization and payment of bills.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the board will be held on July 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tyler County Board of Education Office.
