SCSO finalizes plans for July 6th celebration
The annual 18th annual Picnic in the Park to held in Sistersville on July 6 was the main topic of discussion at the Sistersville Community Service Organization meeting on June 18.
Plans for this years big event, which will begin at noon and go until after the fireworks at 9:30 p.m. include: opening ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. with the VFW Post #6327 performing the flag raising and Bryanna Munoz singing the National Anthem; the “Friendly Voices” performing at the shelter at 2 p.m.; $1 swimming at the pool; and the Dejavu Band performing on the stage from 7-8 p.m. and again from 8:30-9:30 p.m.
Food, craft and other vendors will operate in the park all day along with Greg Holden’s “Rock Wall” for the kids and the concession stand operated by volunteers.
Free ice cream and cake will be provided courtesy of the Sistersville IGA.
“Vendors are encouraged to come and set up a booth of any kind,” said SCSO President, Barb Vincent. “The set up is free and it’s a great opportunity to raise money and offer something to the public.”
“Churches, groups, organizations, everyone is encouraged to participate.”
Linda Henriksen of the Olive Branch Animal Rescue and Refuge reported that she will be setting up a stand offering dog biscuits, a few other dog items for sale and passing out educational information.
There will be something for everyone at this years celebration including the ever popular Zambelli fireworks.
The SCSO is still accepting donations to pay for the huge fireworks display.
The total cost needed for the grand fireworks display is $7,950. Contributions to the fund drive can be sent to the SCSO Fireworks Fund at P.O. Box 46, Sistersville, WV 26175, or can be made at the Tyler Star News Office located at 727 Wells St. in Sistersville.
The SCSO believes that the event is an ideal time for everyone to come out and celebrate our nation’s birth, honor our area veterans and to enjoy one another’s company.
Area businesses, organizations and/or individuals are also invited to participate in the celebration at the Sistersville City Park.
